Donor Sperm

Donor sperm is used to help with family building in a number of scenarios including same sex female couples, women without a male partner and heterosexual couples in whom the male partner has severely low or no sperm or carries a genetic disease.

The FDA highly regulates all cells and tissues from a donor, so every donor must go through rigorous testing, quarantining and retesting prior to sperm samples being released for use. Any sperm donor who is listed on a sperm bank site has already gone through this process.

In addition, all donors undergo extensive genetic and infectious disease testing as well as a detailed medical and family history investigation.

Individuals and couples interested in donor sperm usually begin by looking through profiles that meet their desired characteristics on the websites of sperm banks. Once a donor is selected, vials of the donor specimen will be shipped to the office to be stored in our cryotanks for use at the time of intrauterine insemination (IUI) or IVF.

We are always available to guide you as you navigate the process of selecting, shipping and using donor sperm.
